Does a Chrome security extension read my browsing history?

Accepted Answer

Sorinify does not. Our extension only sends the URL of the page being loaded to our servers for analysis, then discards it immediately. We never read your full browsing history, browsing patterns, email content, or page contents. You can verify this yourself in the Chrome Web Store permissions list.

Do security extensions collect the URLs you visit?

Many popular security extensions log visited URLs as part of how they work. Sorinify is architecturally different: your URL is checked server-side, a verdict is returned, and the URL is discarded immediately — never logged, never stored, never linked to your account. Your browsing stays yours.

What is the difference between client-side and server-side phishing detection?

Client-side extensions run code inside your browser and can read page content, form fields, and credentials. Sorinify uses server-side detection: only the URL is sent to our servers before the page loads — the extension never has access to page content, your passwords, or your form data. Server-side scanning is faster, more private, and continuously updated without requiring extension updates.

Will a security extension slow down Chrome?

Accepted Answer

Sorinify adds less than 30ms to average page load times. Because our threat analysis runs on our servers rather than inside your browser tabs, no JavaScript executes in your pages to slow rendering. Client-side extensions that inject code or scan DOM elements can add 200–500ms per page. You can measure Sorinify's footprint using Chrome's built-in extension performance tool.

Can a Chrome extension protect me from fake lookalike websites that use foreign characters?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Sorinify detects IDN homograph attacks — where scammers register domains using visually identical characters from other alphabets (for example, a Cyrillic 'а' instead of a Latin 'a'). When you visit a suspected lookalike domain, Sorinify checks the full Unicode representation of the URL against known brands and flags the mismatch before the page loads.

Where is my data stored when I use a Chrome security extension?

Accepted Answer

Sorinify processes and stores all user data in Germany, under EU jurisdiction and full GDPR enforcement. Unlike extensions operated from outside the EU, your data is never transferred to a third country. We are registered as a data controller established in the EEA and our servers are hosted exclusively by a German provider.

Does Chrome's built-in Safe Browsing already protect me from phishing?

Chrome's Standard Safe Browsing checks URLs against a locally cached list that updates every 30–60 minutes. Fresh phishing sites — which often go live, harvest credentials, and go offline within hours — can slip through this window entirely. Sorinify performs real-time server-side lookups against a continuously updated database, catching zero-day phishing sites that the cached list misses. Chrome's Enhanced Protection offers real-time checks but requires sending your full browsing URLs to Google. Sorinify provides real-time protection without sharing your data with a third party.

Can Chrome extensions see your passwords or form data?

Accepted Answer

Some extensions can, if they inject content scripts into pages — this is a documented security risk. Sorinify never injects scripts into page content and never reads form fields. The only data sent to our servers is the URL being loaded, before page content is parsed. You can verify this in our Chrome Web Store permissions listing.

Our server-side models analyse page content before it reaches your browser — so unlike tools that react after the page loads, Sorinify blocks the threat before any code runs in your browser.
